Higher Cathedral Spire, Regular Route (5.9)
Daff Dome (West Crack + Bombs Over Tokyo)
June 12-13, 2010

On Saturday, we went to Tuolumne, and it felt like we were the only ones
there! Not a single person on Daff Dome the whole day. We did West Crack
(which normally has lines), and then Bombs
Over Tokyo's first pitch, which I managed to onsight, barely - it's one
of my favourite pitches anywhere (yellow/blue TCU crux). The approach was
completely snow covered, and a breeze kept it cool the whole day. The views
- just beautiful as always.
On Sunday, we did the Regular
Route on Higher Cathedral Spire - it is just mind blowing to imagine
people climbing this route in the 1930's! The whole time, I kept trying to
imagine what the people who pioneered this route must have gone through -
epic. Some of the positions & exposure
are quite memorable, and the route finding quite challenging for Yosemite.
Oh yeah, and the mosquitos ate us on the hot approach.
