At the top of the pass above Canmore, we find a goat precariously perched

At the top of the pass above Canmore, we find a goat precariously perched

Hiking up towards Chester lake, we see Mt. Chester

And further towards the left, we can see up the valley that leads to Mt. Fortress

Even further to the left is Gusty or Windy..

Chester creek flowing downhill from the lake

Chester Lake

We pass the waterfall, and head up into the higher valley

And even higher yet

Mt. Fortress becomes visible at the end of the valley. Unfortunately the summit is in the clouds

Those few who venture above Chester lake find a pair of fantastic tarns

About halfway down the valley, Mt. Fortress escapes the clouds momentarily so that we can see the summit block.

Looking the way we have come.

The earlier part of the valley has grasses and flowers and such, but as you continue upwards they disappear.

Directly below the summit, there is a ice clogged little lake.

Back the way we came. Around now, the storm becomes more fierce. We are pelted by those 'snow pebbles' that sting.

This is a false scree slope. It gives on the way up, but not on the way down.

Another view of the ice clogged lake.

For brief moments the clouds part so that we can see. Back the way we came.

Back the way we came.

On the east side of the pass, another valley heads southwards.

The false summit.

We gain elevation quickly.

Wrapped up tight. The snow continues to sting.

We make the summit!

Peter's first 3000m mountain.

we had to climb about 20 feet over rocks like this.

And just as we leave the summit, the weather system leaves and things start to clear up

Taken just below the summit block. Way in the distance, you can see the parking lot.
