Monterey sea kayaking (birthday!)

I had never been told "Pack up X, Y and Z and be ready to leave on Friday at 6pm, we're doing something for your birthday", but I was somehow in that situation. My attempts to squeeze out information from Melissa in the days prior to this failed - I found out what X, Y and Z were, but they didn't reveal much - she was much tougher than I would have been in revealing information. Should I be nervous, excited, or just relax and try to go along? These are the types of questions I was asking myself as I just didn't know what to think! Once in the car, I realized we're going south and had some good guesses - at that point I started to finally relax. :)

After a great evening in Pacific Grove/Monterey, on Saturday we went sea kayaking! This is something I always wanted to try and it was amazing - the water is a totally new medium for me! I was scared of flipping over and for the first 20 minutes every muscle in my body was tense, in attempts to keep balanced. In retrospect the best way to keep balance is to just relax - much like other outdoor activities, natural reflexes aren't your friend! It was fun to try something totally new and get humbled. Paddling was hard too! Thankfully we got a double kayak so the work was shared (meaning, I could slack off by pretending to take pictures when I was feeling worked!)

One of the best parts was the wildlife, lots of sea otters (wish I managed to take a photo of them, sneaky little guys), and lazy sea lions lounging around. Such a sweet experience!!!
