Patricia Bowl and Mammoth Crest 2012
July 28-29, 2012

We returned from Alaska to
a heat wave... so on the weekend wanted to escape to the High
Sierra. On Saturday we went to Patricia Bowl, my favorite crag
ever - it happens to be also shaded most of the day! This was the
first time I've been there that it wasn't chilly (and we wore
wind breakers in the afternoon). We warmed up on the arete bolt
climbs which we hadn't done before, then climbed a bunch of the classic
cracks including Boiiing on the Orange Pillar, one of the best
hand cracks in the Sierra. And did I mention we almost had the
crag to ourselves? Unbelievable.
On Sunday we hiked up to Mammoth Crest, also being the only
climbers... what a great place! The heat was pretty intense
in the morning, and shade didn't come until much later...
McCloud lake was tempting to jump into, on the way back - but
we had a long drive home.
