Moonlight, Weeping Wall, Grotto Canyon, December 2008
December 27-30, 2008

After a 6 hour flight delay, I picked up Karen around 3am on the 27th. I was also getting sick, and the Ghost was impassable due to recent snows - which is the place we planned to spend most of our time in. So things weren't exactly going as planned but we still tried to do the best of it.

The first day, we hiked into Evan Thomas, and climbed Moonlight. The next day I was too sick and there wasn't much in condition that was nearby, so we stayed in town and visited the climbing gym. The 3rd day we drove up to the Weeping Wall, hoping to do the middle of the lower wall (5+) and then go up and take a look at Weeping Pillar on the upper wall. Unfortunately the ice was very chandeliered and unconsolidated so the protection was non-existent after the cave, so we bailed off. With an afternoon flight the next day, we couldn't hope to do much, so we headed to Grotto Canyon where Karen led Hers - in much more exciting condition than usual.

Overall I can't remember such bad conditions in the Rockies in December, for both skiing and climbing at the same time... but perhaps that's just because the Ghost was out of commission, and that's my favourite place. :)

More posing. I traversed right 15 feet in search of better ice, and this photo is taken after I was bailing and came back. Karen wanted to take a look too He saw the same thing I saw and was coming back :)
