Tahoe Misc 2010

Tahoe got a big storm the week of January 18th and we headed up for some skiing (I got a sweet new setup, thanks to Jay @ Outback Adventures). On Saturday we enjoyed pretty good conditions at Heavenly (especially in the morning) and then on Sunday, we got up extra early and drove to our favourite local peak for some backcountry. The snow was just amazing there. Afterwards we had decided to go check out a mythical ice/mixed climb that sometimes forms at Lover's Leap, an extremely popular summer climbing crag. We had talked about Eeore's fantasy for the last couple of seasons, but finally decided to go check it out first hand. It had been below freezing for about 10 days, with daytime highs near 25-30 F and colder nights, so we figured if there was ice, now would not be a bad time to go look for it. Unfortunately there was pretty much nothing but snow plastered on rock, with some places having delaminating ice that would occasionally plate off by itself :) We actually broke trail to the base of The Line, but the idea of climbing just seemed silly given it was 2pm and there was no ice in sight. It would probably still provide for some adventurous Scottish-style climbing with dubious protection, maybe we'll come back again with different expectations :)

I didn't shoot any skiing pictures but took some helmet cam videos that I'll have to edit at some point...

Breaking trail in the deep snow was work... we haven't given up yet, not sure why The Line. As we contemplated climbing it, various ice chunks were melting and falling off, which made the decision easier
