Thanksgiving @ the East Side
November 26-28, 2010

California got a big dump of snow for Thanksgiving, so Melissa and I
headed to Tahoe, where we hung out with Megan and Isaiah before they
took off to see family, and the next morning we skied at Heavenly.
On Friday morning, we drove to Lee Vining and attempted to go check
out the ice... with the cold temperatures, it was expected to be good!
Unfortunately, the unsupportive snow and approach boulder field did
not mix well. After we bailed on that idea, we went to June Lake
where we played around on the roadside ice. That night, we camped
next to some hot springs south of Mammoth... it was super cold! So
cold that the hot springs tubs were more like "luke warm" than "hot"!
Hoping to climb at Owens River Gorge the next day, we went for
breakfast in Bishop... however, when we got to the parking lot at
Owens, it started snowing! Highway 395 was actually very exciting,
and had snow all the way from there to Tahoe, where we slept that
night. We went to Powderhouse Peak on Sunday and also managed 2-3
hours of skiing at Sierra at Tahoe! A great 4-day weekend, too bad
there aren't more of them. :)
